  • 99% of AI Driven Products and Features will be Unused and Fail

    |
    Updated at

Artificial Intelligence or AI is quite the buzzword. It's slapped on to many products these days that at best are just cool. It's just a get rich quick scheme to draw in investor money.

Remember the self driving car craze 10 years ago? Replace the taxi drivers, uber drivers, TRUCK DRIVERS! BRING COSTS DOWN TO ZERO! Where are the self driving cars and self driving ride hailing? Yeah, it was designed only to draw in investor money. Hype hype hype! Uber was all in and had ATG working on that. Waymo is the only ...

  • Building MyRocks for MySQL 8, Fedora

    |
    Updated at

I find myself annoyed when building something that more things are needed than what the instructions say.

    The build steps: https://github.com/facebook/mysql-5.6/wiki/Build-Steps

You follow these steps and are stuck at cmake which complains about out of source builds. Wtf does that mean. Then you get past that and now you need to install more libraries. UGH. After that it complains about needing BOOST 1.77 which is already in the directory. Finally you get to make and now hamstrung by some perl build error! I ...

  • Saving More Space In My Time Series Database

    |
    Updated at

I created a Time Series Database for private use and am also looking to figure out ways to decrease on/off memory space and simplify things.

Typically a time series database will store values into an inflexible 64bit number such as a long integer or double precision float. I did that at first just to get something done, but branched out into having public types separated from internal types. The idea instead is to expose things like percent, normalized value, integer, rational, etc. I would map those into in...

  • Getting Better with Japanese Hiragana

    |
    Updated at

I started learning to read Japanese with Hiragana first. MARU app has been very much the primary driver of helping me learn the symbols and sounds. Just constant practice and divorcing English, harder than it sounds, from the lessons has been instrumental. It's a good feeling when you can look at a sentence and sound out the symbols from memory or even recognize sequences of symbols without sound and know what word that is.

Kanji exists as symbols to represent certain things since Hira/Katakana isn't good en...

  • I Created A Time Series Database (TSDB), Finally

    |
    Updated at

It's a big step forward. I've talked about Data Collection, Monitoring and Visualization before, so this has always been on my mind. Just glad to get something down now.

My Idea has been a TSDB/LogDB on every machine that can send to a historical store. One should be able to query and stream observable data from any machine from an authorized point of access to diagnose issues. With that streaming capability, my idea has been that you could create rules that trigger violations and enough/combination of viola...

  • Learning Japanese with Maru App

    |
    Updated at

    MARU app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/maru-learn-japanese-hiragana/id1208009110

Why at all? I will travel to Japan very soon. My goal is simple, learn how recognize characters and sound them out. No writing. Just reading. Makes it easy to remember how to say certain things in a conversation or read signs.

It's an app for beginners more towards memorization and writing of characters and expanding your vocabulary. I like the drills as it helps with memorization/association. The reminders are very helpful of c...

  • Bitcode (De)Serialize is slower than RMP-Serde and Bincode 1.3.3 Serde

    |
    Updated at

I assert that rmp and bincode are much faster than bitcode despite the "rust serialization benchmark". Bitcode is highly compressible as well, it claims and that I will not test.

    There is this
https://david.kolo.ski/rust_serialization_benchmark/ and its comparing apples to oranges when it comes to bin code. Are you going to be reusing a bitbode buffer when typeically serializing and deserializing objects? How about using serde which most applications use. The benchmark is highly unrealistic.

    This is the result...

  • I Use The 24Hr Clock

    |
    Updated at

I've been doing this since 2019-2020. It's been off and on before that, but I fully committed to it at that point. AM/PM is great and all but learning and getting used to the 24hr then translating in my head to PM (AM is straightforward) becomes muscle memory.

I can look at 20:00 and say 8PM very quickly. The math is straightforward: 20:00 - 12:00 = 8:00 then slap PM (save for the 12AM/PM case). Obviously you are not going to do 11:00 - 12:00 = -1:00 for AM when you can say 11:00AM = 11:00 (24hr time), but i...

  • A Sleep Study Could Save You Grief

    |
    Updated at

Sleep Apnea is a killer. Slowly but surely as you age. Isn't it crazy for your body to be set to kill itself by hypoxia. Your brain is deprived of oxygen while you are sleeping and this affects brain chemistry as well as how your body regulates itself over time.

A sleep study doesn't take much effort. If you've been groggy, not well rested, irritated, stressed out for no good reason, waking up in the middle of the night, I'd reckon on Sleep Apnea. Typically go to a Neurololgist, ENT or Dentist to do it.

    Obstr...

  • Intel (INTC) is Still on Track to Getting Kicked Off The Dow 30

    |
    Updated at

Latest Quarter Revenue results have resulted in a substantial layoff. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Intel is dead. The so called MBAs and what not killed the company. The brain drain that occurred led to very experienced engineers moving off to Apple, Qualcomm, Samsung, Nvidia and etc. Look at the latest f**k up with their latest generation CPUs, 13th and 14th Gen and I almost bought these too. F**ked up the voltage settings and damaged people's processors. Won't even recall the processors. Com...
