    MARU app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/maru-learn-japanese-hiragana/id1208009110

Why at all? I will travel to Japan very soon. My goal is simple, learn how recognize characters and sound them out. No writing. Just reading. Makes it easy to remember how to say certain things in a conversation or read signs.

It's an app for beginners more towards memorization and writing of characters and expanding your vocabulary. I like the drills as it helps with memorization/association. The reminders are very helpful of c...

  • Intel (INTC) is Still on Track to Getting Kicked Off The Dow 30

    |
    Updated at

Latest Quarter Revenue results have resulted in a substantial layoff. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Intel is dead. The so called MBAs and what not killed the company. The brain drain that occurred led to very experienced engineers moving off to Apple, Qualcomm, Samsung, Nvidia and etc. Look at the latest f**k up with their latest generation CPUs, 13th and 14th Gen and I almost bought these too. F**ked up the voltage settings and damaged people's processors. Won't even recall the processors. Com...

  • Framework 13 With AMD Ryzen 5 is My First AMD Laptop

    |
    Updated at

It's a serious performance beast vs my old Intel 10th Gen Dell laptop and a 2018 Xeon Server which are both bigger than this Framework laptop. Geez man, woooooo, it run laps around these things. 3m compiling a Rust Project that took 20m+ on the 2018 Xeon Server. Almost 10x improvement right there.

I didn't even buy it for performance either. It was the cheapest spec and very low TDP like near Apple M1 TDP. I bought it to replace my Xeon server because it's about time to replace it. I wanted to buy another se...

  • The Problem With Multiplayer: Community

    |
    Updated at

There aren't many multiplayer games doing this VERY important feature correctly. Community is how you increase engagement with games. I mean other than the fun factor. I haven't seen many games do multiplayer social features well. Most games just throw people into matches game after game. No consideration for you might want to play with some group of people again.

No not the way they currently do it where you have a "good" game and play next match again. This is a terrible way to go about it. What they expec...

  • ULID64 as a Compact Form of ULID

    |
    Updated at

You might be thinking what is ULID? or Why not use UUID? This is why I don't use UUID for identity.

ULID is essentially a sortable version of UUID4 with timestamp. It having a sortable property works out really well for indexes that rely on sortability like a B-Tree Index in MySQL or less so a Skiplist index in RocksDB. I use RocksDB a lot these days, still use MySQL. I'm using both of these databases for Project Starflash, in fact. Anyway, ULID is an absolute improvement over UUID4 for database indexes, but...

  • Project Starflash #3: Just Getting Started

    |
    Updated at

Project Starflash is an, in development, social network for romantic and platonic connections. The twist is that connections are done between people of the opposite gender.

The application is has less emphasis on dating and more on forming a connection between pairs of people by multiple means of connecting. It can be used for "dating" like Tinder/Bumble, but can be used to just find activities to do with people of the other gender. Doing things with another person is the best way to form connections romant...

  • Project Starflash #2: Mockups Mostly Done

    Updated at

Project Starflash is an, in development, social network for romantic and platonic connections. The twist is that connections are done between people of the opposite gender.

I wholeheartedly believe that people of the opposite gender can meet up and do things without feeling the need to check your back. The focus always turns towards a woman needing to feel safe totally forgetting about a man's experience with dating apps. Men have been beaten, robbed and even killed by females and their accomplices on dati...

  • Project Starflash: Another Revived Shelf Project

    |
    Updated at

Mmmmhmmmm, so I've been thinking about how many popular dating apps are currently owned by Match Group. Sure there is Bumble, but what's the difference? People's mindset about the apps I guess like Tinder is stereotyped as the hookup app. Anyway making my own singles/connections/dating app has been a long time in the making. I still own the domain for what I had originally called it 8 years now. Done nothing with it, until NOW with PROJECT STARFLASH!

The project is all about returning to basics. Men pursue, ...

  • My Blog is now Server Side Rendered WITH RUST!

    |
    Updated at

With Leptos as the web framework! Yes, the RUSTIFICATION of the world continues!

The motivation for this was to get off NodeJS, which has a myriad of issues that I no longer want to reconcile with. I love Rust, so transforming this blog to use Leptos wasn't hard at all. Going from lit-html to Leptos was just not hard, it's crazy how good some frameworks have gotten with templating.

PageSpeed shows performance improvements of course, some other things I will have to resolve. My server doesn't need as much memo...

  • Project Phantasy #1: A Multiplayer Game. Server Written with Rust

    |
    Updated at

Ah Project Phantasy, so original. I'm far enough along that I might as well write about this stuff in a series like Atlas Fury (Project Atlas). I'm excited about the work like I was with Atlas Fury.

Project Phantasy is an online multiplayer game for mobile devices The objective is to land as many hits on the opposing team with your avatars as possible. It's a real time strategy game, on the lines of Clash Royale which is still fun to play. There is no general theme to the game as it touches on many themes.

    Pol...
