OpenAI is Done with Chat Models. GPT 4.5 will be the "Last Chat Model". GPT 5 will be "Unified" Reasoning and Chat.
They are not releasing O3 as a standalone model anymore. Not really sure what leap GPT 4.5 takes over 4o. GPT 5 will probably just be a UI change really. I think it's all marketing drivel now. They seem less excited overall about releasing any performance statistics about GPT 4.5. O3 they were enthusiastic about until DeepSeek R1 came out of China and blew away their cost and performance per watt.
Users of the free tier of ChatGPT will get unlimited chat access to GPT-5 at the standard intelligence setting;...

DeepSeek R1 Is A Game Changer for Open Source AI Models
I was praising Microsoft's Phi4 the other day and you know what I still praise it. It is a very good Chat LLM. Very much.
DeepSeek R1 is not a Chat LLM, it is more of an agent or worker. You can still discuss with it, but it will print out a lot of detail even what it is thinking. They categorize this model, like GPT o1 and o3, as Reasoning LLMs.
Anything you type into Reasoning LLMs will cause these LLMs to output a lot of details because it is trying to figure out how to answer your question with as much de...

YouTube has Overzealous Comment Moderation
I made a comment "The sheep vote for their butcher" on a video recently that really resonated, enough that people used it outside of YouTube. The thing is, it took me several rephrases of trying to say the same darn thing without auto moderation destroying my original comment. I mean maybe thanks to YouTube for auto moderating that I could even get that particular form of phrasing. It's annoying nonetheless.
The video was about gRump supporters who knew nothing about what they were voting against. They are t...

Open AI Models Getting Better At Coding Tasks
I'm a use any tool that helps you kind of person, so I like GPT-4o and Claude for coding tasks, but open models are getting much better. Problem is models like GPT and Claude require an internet connection. Open models like LLaMA 3.2 does not, which confers benefits for employees at companies looking to increase their productivity.
Here are several Leaderboards measuring code model performance:

Breathing Exercises and Narrated Short Stories + Personal Voice = Unlearn Stress. A Stress Reduction App
I got a new app out on iPhone. Google is busy dragging their feet.
So around Q1 2024, I found that a Shaman breathing exercise had been the most effective exercise for lowering stress levels. I call it Shaman because of where it was inspired from. I usually did it about 45 minutes to 60 minutes consistently at first, it took time and patience to be able to do it for 60 minutes in one sitting. I always found my heart rate going down and heart rate variability going back up overall.
Recently started doing it ag...

99% of AI Driven Products and Features will be Unused and Fail
Artificial Intelligence or AI is quite the buzzword. It's slapped on to many products these days that at best are just cool. It's just a get rich quick scheme to draw in investor money.
Remember the self driving car craze 10 years ago? Replace the taxi drivers, uber drivers, TRUCK DRIVERS! BRING COSTS DOWN TO ZERO! Where are the self driving cars and self driving ride hailing? Yeah, it was designed only to draw in investor money. Hype hype hype! Uber was all in and had ATG working on that. Waymo is the only ...

Building MyRocks for MySQL 8, Fedora
I find myself annoyed when building something that more things are needed than what the instructions say.
The build steps: https://github.com/facebook/mysql-5.6/wiki/Build-Steps
You follow these steps and are stuck at cmake which complains about out of source builds. Wtf does that mean. Then you get past that and now you need to install more libraries. UGH. After that it complains about needing BOOST 1.77 which is already in the directory. Finally you get to make and now hamstrung by some perl build error! I ...

Saving More Space In My Time Series Database
I created a Time Series Database for private use and am also looking to figure out ways to decrease on/off memory space and simplify things.
Typically a time series database will store values into an inflexible 64bit number such as a long integer or double precision float. I did that at first just to get something done, but branched out into having public types separated from internal types. The idea instead is to expose things like percent, normalized value, integer, rational, etc. I would map those into in...

I Created A Time Series Database (TSDB), Finally
It's a big step forward. I've talked about Data Collection, Monitoring and Visualization before, so this has always been on my mind. Just glad to get something down now.
My Idea has been a TSDB/LogDB on every machine that can send to a historical store. One should be able to query and stream observable data from any machine from an authorized point of access to diagnose issues. With that streaming capability, my idea has been that you could create rules that trigger violations and enough/combination of viola...
