  • JFXR as a Native App with Electron

    |
    Updated at

    Source Code: https://github.com/normano/jfxr

I forked JFXR and added electron support so one can open it as a native application.

JFXR is supposedly a spiritual successor to BFXR which one could use to create sound effects using waveform attributes and patterns. It's good stuff. While one could access JFXR online, there's no guarantee that will always be accessible. With this someone could put it on itch.io, but again no guarantee itch.io won't go to sh*t later. One could build the source code and just run th...

Got to the point where I have a credits screen.

This game is coming soon. January 2024 the earliest considering the work outside of just coding up the game and obtaining art and music. For example, there are ads that I have to get someone to help create.

I'm at the point where I really just have to worry about adding game content and polishing up things. I plan to add some other things, but they are game play features or operating system specific things.

There isn't one day where I don't play this game and smi...

  • US Healthcare System Needs Better Primary Care Doctors

Ones that think holistically and ones who admit to their shortcomings enough to refer you to other doctors who can evaluate the body holistically from there.

You'd think ER visit after ER visit that a doctor would've thought in their mind with their brain with their so called 'adequate training' that they'd be able to not want to do the same thing over and over expecting a different result. You'd think with their so called 'adequate training' that if a patient tells you they are looking for root cause of a p...

    AMERICCCCCAAAAAAAAA, FUK YEHHHH

Just implemented homing projectiles with detection area. I applied the homing behavior to this USA themed ship's rear weapon. There's other things I implemented since the last post of course. My goal right now is to get all 19 ships and their weapons working then move on to the enemies afterwards start making new levels. Finally move on to UI operations such as unlocking ships and IAP, etc. Once all that is good, work on the special weapons for each ship.

    I'm making sure that t...

I've been working on a 2D space based survivor game using the Godot engine. It's looking really good so far.

Epic MegaGames, known as Epic today, published a game in the 90s called Tyrian. I still play it, but it's known as OpenTyrian today. It's been almost 30 years now since its release. I've been wanting to make a game like it in the past, but haven't been inspired enough to do it. Well, I learned Godot this summer and decided I was going to make Project Atlas and decided I intend to pay homage to Tyrian ...

  • Stable Diffusion Models are Too Biased

    |
    Updated at

If I asked a human to draw a woman with a phone in her hand explaining something to a man then they would attempt to draw exactly that. If it's a white human, I'd expect the output skin color to be white same with any other human biased towards their environment unless they themselves are biased toward other skin colors. Skin color isn't the problem with Stable diffusion.

Stable diffusion will instead draw up a man with a phone explaining it to a woman. WTF? Same with African doctor treating European or Asia...

  • US Healthcare System is Sick

Inefficient, bloated systems and with terrible management and doctors who need to retire.

Why's it so hard to verify insurance from the get go? Why's it so hard to get scheduling from the get go?

Why in the f*cks name would anyone send referrals and blah first BEFORE and insurance of scheduling can be agreed to? There's ZERO ZERO ZERO F*CKING agreement on even ATTENDING said institution. Like wtf? Collect patient info first, referrals and then schedule? What? What logic is this? Why the hell does there even n...

  • Persistence in Games is not Persistence in Applications

    |
    Updated at

In applications, specifically web apps when a user performs an action such as pushing an item into a shopping cart or sending a message on a forum, there is an immediate need to persist the data into a database. Meanwhile, an online game has many actions occurring such as player movement. You can't persist all of those movements.

An online game like an MMO for instance has to treat most interactions as ephemeral aka in store in RAM. One needs to change their mindset on the idea that not everything needs to b...

  • SPA Search Engine Crawler Friendliness Idea Update

    Updated at

I tried out my "SPA Search Engine Crawler Friendliness Idea" (https://www.normansoven.com/post/spa-search-engine-crawler-friendliness-idea) and preliminary results are better than expected. Astronomical results, really. It's more work to have a search engine friendly server side page, also technically print friendly, alongside a client side website, but it's worth it if you care for organic search results.

I think going multi page for consumer facing apps is the way to go whenever you care for SEO, but servi...

  • Learned SwiftUI and Uploaded an iPhone and Apple Watch App to the App Store.

    Updated at

I already knew Objective-C which I liked. I can't say the same for Swift though. I also decided to hunker down and build a smolll app with it for iPhone and Apple Watch.

Swift looks like it was inspired more by Objective C and Rust. Named arguments in a specific order for instance? Objective C. The little auto complete lookup in XCode still shitty. Multiple function signatures for same function name? Objective C. It has more static analysis like Rust which keeps you from running bad code. Objective C would l...
