Framework Laptop Site: https://frame.work/
I turned on my Dell XPS today that I bought refurbed in 2021 and it just kept blanking out or displaying some scrambled crap on the screen. I tried turn on and turn off, but that didn't work. Utter trash, It lasted 4 years for me? I think it was the processor that broke down (INTEL!!!!) more than anything else. I extracted the SSD and 32GB Ram from it and trashed the laptop. I decided to buy another Framework to replace it.
I previously bought a Framework laptop to replace my server mostly because the server was loud. I wasn't disappointed at all, the Framework LaptopĀ is significantly quieter and faster, it has 64GB RAM which is close enough to the 96 or 128gb in the server. I'll take less memory for quieter and faster operation, absolutely.
I think what I will do is buy 96GB Ram put that into the old Framework laptop, so the server has enough memory to run anything and everything. I'll take the 64GB and put that into the new Framework laptop. 64GB is more than enough for what development I may do.
I have spare 2TB NVME SSD, so I didn't need to buy that with the new Framework. Pretty much, I bought a new laptop without memory and storage dive because I have or will have them to install into it.
Ugh, it delays what I was trying to do with deploying all the new supercharged Infrastructure software that I built with the help of A.I. I can only hope the new one comes soon. I could transfer the projects to the lab server and build the rpms, but.... I need to test them properly before committing to that which is why I had the Dell XPS as my development springboard.
I might have to figure out a way to see how I can make this process simpler so I can just transfer any projects quickly and call commands on them so I can test them remotely, I'm sure rsync would help a lot with this. Ideally just want to sync the code from src to destination automatically and start/stop/build programs from a cli easily (separate ssh session isn't), this stuff would only happen during a dev session of course. I also don't mind the idea of just pulling project repos based on a notification so the linux server would just pull when the Mac notifies it of a change. Someday it'll happen where I can work on my Mac and test it all on Linux easily as if I was developing on Linux from the get go.
F**K DELL. XPS is just not the premium quality brand anymore.
