How I am going to use Git branches
I had no idea until my internship that you could deviate from the master branch with multiple branches with different changes then modify the master branch and then merge master's changes into the branches and eventually merge youre features on to master. Well, I knew you could create multiple branches, I just never figured that I'd want to modify the master branch once I'd made a branch from it. I now appreciate how git makes life easier especially with its demarcations of conflicts between branches you ar... -
HTTP_HOST and SERVER_NAME
Let me put this quite simply.... They are not to be trusted. Treat them just like how you would treat user input because it can be spoofedl. Sooo, what should you do? I suggest using SetEnv inside of the htaccess file or the global config file. Use SetEnv to set a domain name variable with your domain and use that.
It is much easier to use HTTP_HOST or SERVER_NAME, but the dangers of XSS or SQL injection if you use these variables in various places. Most, if not all, tutorials will tell you to use these. You... -
Microsoft OneNote Problem/Issue
Microsoft OneNote is one of the best note taking software I have ever used, but one EVER so slight problem appears when I leave my notebooks to automatically sync!
Look for yourself...
It is HORRIBLE! I think when I tend to use my pen's right button to scroll down (basically the select tool while dragging down) this happens while it is syncing automatically. I've disabled automatic sync until this issue is fixed! I absolutely hate when this happens! I'm glad I was practicing my exams or else I would be REALLY... -
If Windows Phone heads towards...
the same fragmentation crap Android is in... I will abandon Windows Phone forever. There is no place for more fragmented shit like Android. People have to ROOT their phones in order to upgrade because their manufacturer doesn't want to update them for some reason... OH yeah MONEY. Fragmentation is a HUGE issue for devs! Which (version) do you target exactly? How do you (Microsoft) move your system further when most people will be held back? Google is being taught a lesson in this space that's why they won't... -
Playstation's Deal to woo Indie Game Devs
http://www.playstation.com/pss/index_e.html
*sighs* Only if they did this say .... in 2006? How unfortunate to be late to the game. Microsoft allows people to create games for XBox 360 at their desk. I can't believe it myself when Sony ignored that market. Idiots, I say, but, seriously, truth to be told I don't care so much about Playstation products anymore and this deal? You still can't develop for the actual console, PS3.
Good luck Sony, you are going to need a lot of it. -
Open Source Hype
It's all hype.. okay, not all of it anyway. Some people have legitimate reasons for open sourcing, but others (or many) do not.
What are legitimate reasons you say? One pertains to helping other learn and use your code. (Obviously) Second pertains to letting other people use your library and open sourcing it in order to improve the software (people have their ways with breaking things). Third pertains to the idea that open sourcing your software is in line with your ideology (assuming it is not tainted by hy... -
Amazon Price Comparision Windows Phone App
Screw it.... Everytime I find myself a deal online I often find that there is no way to compare prices with the local shop. You know your local grocery store. Taking a localized approach to it makes so much sense at this point.
This app is so simple. Simply find the products you will buy from Amazon and store the prices on your phone. Go to the shop and compare. Done. Heck you can even enter the price of the item that you are interested in and compare with an online retailer.
The idea is that I'd like to figu... -
Recommenders and Web Services API Idea
I've been reading Mahout in Action and its very good to say the least. The one thing I was annoyed at was the lack of an up to date chapter on creating a Web Service to feed Mahout data. I mean this is Java right? We have access to many different libraries, so my idea now is to create a basic recommender and use an http library to listen to requests or even create a web service layer in Python and create the recommender in Java and find a way to link them up.
One way to get python to work with Mahout may be ... -

How I built the HN News Recommender
and what do I expect to do with it. Don't know what this is? Click here for my first post.Intro
The HN News Recommender is due to my interest in recommendation systems, more or less content-based ones. I would really like to know more about what the industry is doing, but I thought I'd go figure out how simple classification works, since I'm not learning much about it in college, but college does help with understanding the theoretical parts and explaining why you believe something is reasonable.
Anyway, wher...
